MAN OF STEEL 2 (2026)

While speaking with a fan on social media, Gunn gave the impression that while we’ll see Superman on the big screen again, “Superman 2” might not be exactly what fans are expecting it’ll look like.

“Define Superman 2,” the filmmaker replied on Threads when directly asked about “Superman 2.” An obvious tease that the next movie might not be a true solo adventure, and comes after Gunn coyly talked up an indirect sequel that was already in the works.

Gunn was also talking up Bradley Cooper‘s cameo as Jor-El in the film during the press tour and revealed via Deadline his reasoning for reuniting with his “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor (Cooper plays Rocket Raccoon).

“Well, Bradley’s a friend of mine, and I needed somebody who could play Jor-El, and I don’t think this is a spoiler, everybody knows about this, who had the stature of what we imagine that character being, somebody who could walk in the footsteps of Marlon Brando,” Gunn said of casting Cooper for the reboot in such an iconic role.

Gunn continued and explained why he decided on hiring a younger actor, “A lot of times, Jor-El is played by a 70-year-old man, and that means he was 70 when he had a baby, so I wanted somebody that wasn’t too old. Everyone was bringing up all these actors that were too old for me. I think Bradley was perfect, he did it for me as a favor because he’s my friend, and I really appreciated him doing it.”

Lastly, Gunn thanked audiences on Threads for the aforementioned box office result for “Superman.”

“I’m incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days,” Gunn wrote over the weekend. “We’ve had a lot of ‘Super’ in Superman over the years, and I’m happy to have made a movie that focuses on the ‘man’ part of the equation, a kind person always looking out for those in need. That that resonates so powerfully with so many people across the world is in itself a hopeful testament to the kindness and quality of human beings. Thank you.”

With “Superwoman: Woman of Tomorrow” starring Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”) and Jason Momoa playing the alien bounty hunter Lobo (able to go toe-to-toe with Kryptonians) coming up next on June 26, 2026, alongside plenty of other DC heroes being established, there is room for a big event crossover coming shortly that could act as a defacto “Superman 2.”

Although we’re already seeing some fans online slightly irked that Gunn is teasing that we might not get a regular solo film for a “Superman” sequel, but another ambitious crossover. Sort of what happened with the Snyderverse’s “Man of Steel 2” when it eventually morphed into “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Then again, without exactly knowing what Gunn is cooking up, it feels extremely premature to get upset this early.
